Is OptionsXpress The Real Gem of Trading?

Likeliness to Recommend

8 /10

What differentiates OptionsXpress from other similar products?

OptionsXpress stands out for its super intuitive options trading tools—way simpler than platforms like TD Ameritrade. The strategy builder lets you test trades before placing them, which is huge for avoiding dumb mistakes. Also, their customer service is actually helpful (rare for trading platforms). Best for intermediate traders who know the basics but don’t want a clunky pro interface.

What is your favorite aspect of this product?

The profit/loss calculator is a lifesaver. I use it before every trade to see worst-case scenarios. No more guessing if a strategy is too risky—it breaks it down in plain English. Saves me from blowing up my account. The paper trading feature is a game-changer. I use it to test dumb ideas without losing real money, and it’s saved me from so many bad trades. It’s like a sandbox mode for options—perfect for practicing before going live.

What do you dislike most about this product?

The mobile app feels outdated. Laggy charts, and sometimes orders take forever to execute. I don't know if it's my network or that's how the app works. But since it's a re-current issue, I'd like to state it. Also, the research tools are weak compared to competitors—don’t rely on it for deep market analysis. The platform feels slow sometimes, especially during market open. I’ve missed a few trades because orders took forever to fill.

What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?

100% worth it if you trade options regularly and want a no-nonsense platform. But if you’re a beginner, start with something like MT5 or Robinhood first. Avoid if you need advanced charting or real-time data—thinkorswim does that better.

Pros

  • Continually Improving Product
  • Reliable
  • Performance Enhancing
  • Enables Productivity

Cons

  • Inhibits Innovation
  • Leverages Incumbent Status
